This dish was my creation when I was not sure what to make for some of my family members who were visiting me. I wanted to prepare a chicken dish and did not have much time. I mixed all the raw ingredients, ground it in a blender and then cooked it with the chicken. To my pleasant surprise, it was a hit and everyone liked it very much.  My nephew Raju likes it very much. Since then, I make it regularly for the family either as a chicken or mutton dish.

For marinade

    Directions

    Step 1

    Grind all the marinade ingredients together without the yoghurt into a thick paste; amix with yoghurt and apply to chicken; set aside for 3-4 hours

    Step 2

    In a cooking pot, add ghee and heat; when hot add onions and fry well till golden-brown; add tomatoes and fry well for an additional 5 minutes

    Step 3

    Add chicken and marinade and fry for 5 minutes; add ½ - ¾ cup of water and cook for 20 minutes until chicken is fully cooked

    Step 4

    Serve with thinly sliced onions and lemon

    Conclusion

    This dish can also be made with mutton (1”-1½” cubes). For mutton, the dish needs to be cooked in a pressure cooker for about 20 minutes until the mutton is cooked and tender.
